Maftir de la Parasha Eikev: La fuerza y la victoria de Israel / From the maftir of Parshas Eikev: Israel's might and victory

These moments the world debates about the real power of Israel. In 1967 an unbelievable war was won against the hosts of 5 Arab countries, in only 6 legendary days. Now, 39 years later, Israel has just fought the 34 Days War. During six of those days, the entire military strength of Israel on the hands of Ehud Olmert was no able to defeat that miserable one-horse-town that is Bint Jabel. And at the beginning of the thirty fifth day, Hizballah celebrates the cease fire as a victory. What happens with Israel? Let us see what the Tora told us in last week’s parshah:

Deuteronomio 11:22-32

If you carefully observe all these commands I am giving you to follow—to love the HaShem your G-d, to walk in all his ways and to hold fast to him— then the HaShem will drive out all these nations before you, and you will dispossess nations larger and stronger than you. Every place where you set your foot will be yours: Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the Euphrates River to the western sea.

No man will be able to stand against you. HaShem your G-d, as he promised you, will put the terror and fear of you on the whole land, wherever you go.

See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse – the blessing if you obey the commands of HaShem your G-d that I am giving you today; the curse if you disobey the commands of HaShem your G-d and turn from the way that I command you today by following other G-ds, which you have not known. When HaShem your G-d has brought you into the land you are entering to possess, you are to proclaim on Mount Gerizim the blessings, and on Mount Eval the curses. As you know, these mountains are across the Jordan, west of the road, toward the setting sun, near the great trees of Moreh, in the territory of those Canaanites living in the Aravah in the vicinity of Gilgal. You are about to cross the Jordan to enter and take possession of the land HaShem your G-d is giving you. When you have taken it over and are living there, be sure that you obey all the decrees and laws I am setting before you today.

Deuteronomy 11:22-32

Y digo yo…

And I say…

It is clear from the verses above that the territorios of Judea and Samaria are just as Jewish as all of Eretz Yisrael, that the Jewish state Hill only survive if it is truly defined as such, that the future of the nation depends on the teshuvah of the Jewish people, and that our protection from Lebanon, from the “desert”, and from anywhere else, truly depends from our attitude with G-d and His Torah.

None of that is viable under a Kadima government. It is time for a major change of direction in Israel!

Mr. Rabinowitch: as you know, I'm not religious but have a keen respect and interest in the Jewish faith. I think you're right. Our leaders today have neither knowledge of nor respect for our Covenant with G-d. They are afraid of the Gentiles and of the Arabs. We should show the world we are not afraid and that whoever dares attack us will be annihilated. That is the Jewish way, I believe. That is not Smolmert's way.

I just can't wait till the next electins and believe they're around the corner. I already know who I am voting for though I won't reveal my choice as of now.

Great post! Kol ha'kavod!

Dear Greg,

I have, till now, given the Torah view on things, pointing to the verses where the Torah teaches us about the Land of Israel, the inheritance of the land, and our Jewish obligations with it. When it comes to an open war, besides what the Torah teaches, there is a simple element of common sense: Nasrallah and his Hizbullah cronies exist only to destroy, kill and annihilate us. There is no alternative to fighting them completely, until the tables are turned over on them.

Failure to show Israel’s true might results in an image of weakness which inspires our enemies’ bravado. It is very important to change that. If Nasrallah’s groupies were to realize that theirs is NOT the true Army of G-d, and that the people they fight are G-d’s true chosen ones, they all would just give up and go away.

But a wrong mentality, a mentality of weakness and self-defeatism is all too common in Israel’s public. Our right to exist is limited to our “democracy”. Big deal! Hamas came to power through a democratic election! So did Ahmadi-Nejad, and so did Hitler, יש״ו ! Their illegitimacy lies not on their democratic means of ascent to power, but on their pretensions of replacing US, the Jewish people, as G-d’s chosen people.

What is so difficult for Jews to stand up and make things clear? The Land of Israel is ours because so is the will of G-d. HaShem Yitbarach chose us, and chose the Land for us. No one will stand successfully challenging that truth. Period.

Don`t you agree that violence is never going to end until a "reasonable" peace is negotiated between the parties?

I am afraid violence can only generate more violence. This situation should stop some day in the Middle East.

Regards.

Estimado Sr. Rabinovih:

Mr. Dijon,

How many times do you need to hit you head against the wall till you realize there is, indeed, a wall there? “Reasonable agreements” have been attempted for years on end. They don’t work. Even worse: the wrong assumption that a “peace process” was underway weakened Israel and allowed for the Arab enemy to successfully launch a Trojan horse. Such was the result of the Oslo talks, as well as the Lebanon retreat and prisoner exchange. Furthermore, the belief that giving up the land of the Jewish communities of Gush Katif (in the Gaza Strip) and Northern Samaria would, somehow, lead to peace, further weakened Israel Hamas got a victory on the Arab street, and won the elections immediately. And here is the result of it all: War in Gaza. War on the border with Lebanon. A set up for a future war which promises to be even bloodier than the one we’ve just suffered. Add to that a SOB in power that is planning to, once again, give up on Jewish communities in Israel’s territories liberated in the Six Day War.

How will peace come? When Moshiach, our righteous Messiah, brings it on. Till then, we just need to be smart. We love peace, we seek peace, but we ought not to jump – once again – in the same suicidal mistakes we’ve committed in the past.

Estimado Federico:

Rafael V. Rabinovich said...

¡Epa!

Usted no sabe escuchar Rabino.
